CAO awarded USCIS citizenship education grant
CAO will soon be able to offer citizenship education classes as well as additional civics-focused ESL classes through a grant from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. Targetting African Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs), this program will support and encourage African LPRs to pursue (and obtain) citizenship here in the US. CAO welcomes Lisa Bright to the team!
Lisa Bright, MSW, has joined the CAO team as the community education coordinator. She has been busy working in the newly arrived refugee communities in metro Denver, Ft Morgan, Greeley and Colorado Springs to bring a new and exciting parent engagement program to Colorado. CAO has identified community leaders in these areas (Somali, Congolese, people of Burma, Bhutanese) that reflect the newly arrived refugee population in Colorado who will become CAO-supported community navigators. These seven navigators will hold parent engagement workshops in their communities as well as help teachers and schools understand and connect with the newly arrived. Welcome to the team, Lisa!

Legal Issues Seminar

CAO supports football in Colorado!
CAO is a proud supporter of the American Immigrants Football League here in Colorado. The annual AIFL tournament starts this weekend, July 10, on the fields outside Dick’s Sporting Park in Commerce City. The tournament culminates on July 24, with the final game and the game for 3rd place occurring in the arena where the Rapids play! Immigrant teams from all over the world are playing in the tournament, including a strong showing from African teams such as Somalia, Congo and Sudan.
